Yes, leave it to Gruber to talk up a feature that was designed to further squeeze the oxygen out of everyone trying to disseminate software or sell it without involving Big Apple Brother.

Given the tight control and almost disconcertingly anti-compettive grip Apple has on iOS and the App Store, combined with hiding Gatekeeper features and uptalking the benefits of their ability to revoke licenses... this isn't a pro-consumer move, it's a pro-Apple move.

And, just in case it's unclear what Apple considered not worthy before, Readability, Instapaper, Quicksilver, eBookReader, and others come to mind.

I always end up doing it as a 'text' post, clicking the HTML and substituting the paragraph tags for blockquotes. Tedious, a little, but it does work.

I think this comment obscures the role & importance of the universities, IITs and Institutes management in India, at least in regards to top recruitment positions. Thing is, there currently aren't enough higher education establishments, or ones good enough, producing enough recruitable candidates. So they form and train their own. The concentration on in-house training may also reflect the inadequacies of curricula in the IITs and IIMs which sometimes are seen as too theoretical and "academic".

While I get Joel's point (that offline networking is still a good thing), he seems to equate having a "good" blog with being net-centric. Two things wrong with that: a blog is a personal thing, not a corporate thing (even if it is branded/multi-authored, engaging blogs have human faces); second is that Twitter FB and Google, and to a lesser extent Apple ALL understand and "live" on the Web ... Microsoft still doesn't, although it has a multitude of excellent individual bloggers.

I guess the biggest issue with pricing like that would be that different people value things differently, and you would only get an appropriate pricing model based on perhaps what you thought of the movie, after you watched it, rather than before. Also, ratings of friends and peers might influence your decision to watch a film more than just what an arbitrary ratings system might reflect, and you're more likely to agree with friends scoring/ratings of a film than just anyone's opinion of it.
